EXPERTISE

John qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and joined this firm in 2002.

John’s expertise is in the area of Civil Litigation and dispute resolution which involves many aspects of the law.  His work includes boundary disputes, contract problems, professional negligence, debt recovery and disputes regarding Estate administration, disputed Wills, employment compromise or settlement agreements and various other complex matters.  In addition to dealing with matters in the office, John regularly attends Court hearings on behalf of clients and can help with all aspects of a civil claim.

John has a broad knowledge of many areas of law and offers practical solutions for problems that you may have.  He is able to identify the key issues in a matter, look at many routes of resolution and review the available evidence to ensure ‘no stone is left unturned’.  John’s forensic approach to all cases ensures that he has all the information and knowledge he needs to pursue any claim or resolution as swiftly and economically as possible.

John’s notable cases include;

  • a substantial Estoppel claim against an estate culminating in a professional negligence claim against solicitors.  This included a High Court Decision amounting to an authority in relation to Legal Privilege in relation to Executors. 
  • Successful conclusion of a high value negligence and fraud claim involving a large international firm of solicitors.
  • Successfully concluding a Tribunal matter concerning the Rural Payments Agency and thereafter a substantial finding of maladministration from the Parliamentary and Health Services Ombudsman including an award of costs.

John is supported by his trainee Solicitor, Anisha Padhiar, Secretary, Sue Porter and assistant Ellie Colbert who are happy to help as much as they can with any enquiries. Gemma Clark also works alongside him in the department.  

BACKGROUND

John has a farming background, his first degree being in agriculture from Wye College.  Following a case in which he was personally involved which reached the Court of Appeal, he decided to retrain and qualify as a solicitor and graduated with an accelerated degree in law.  His agricultural background and personal experience as a client have given John a unique knowledge and understanding to enable him to apply this to his clients’ matters.

In his spare time John enjoys looking after his farm animals which include Lincolnshire rare breeds and he also undertakes  construction and building work converting his farm buildings and holidays cottages himself.
